Julian Rösch - Product Manager Interview

Interview with Julian Rösch: Behind the Scenes, Crafting Patient-Centric Solutions

Did you know that up to 90 % of inhaler users make critical mistakes that reduce treatment effectiveness? At VisionHealth, we’re leveraging AI to change that.

Today, we sit down with Julian Rösch, Product Manager at VisionHealth, to explore how artificial intelligence is revolutionizing inhalation therapy and improving respiratory care.

1. What drew you to digital health in the first place?

After years of consulting, I searched for a role where innovation directly contributes to user needs. Digital health offers an opportunity to merge technology with compassionate care.

It was about moving beyond advising and becoming part of creating meaningful change. The solutions we develop have the potential to transform healthcare delivery, making it easier, more accessible, and efficient.

My journey into digital health is also deeply rooted in my academic background.

During my studies, I had already a focus on medical engineering, which ignited already over 10 years ago my passion for the intersection of medicine and technology.

2. What does your role at VisionHealth involve daily?

As the Product Manager I lead the development of advanced software solutions in the respiratory field, particularly focusing on medical mobile apps.

My daily responsibilities include orchestrating a seamless collaboration between our development, design, and quality assurance teams to ensure our apps genuinely improve patient outcomes and meet stringent healthcare standards.

My key contribution lies in bridging the gap between patients, healthcare and technology, ensuring our apps deliver real-world user benefits.

3. What makes VisionHealth different in the digital therapeutics space?

VisionHealth distinguishes itself in the digital therapeutics space through its strong medical and scientific foundation. Our team’s expertise allows us to conduct rigorous clinical studies, ensuring that our solutions are backed by solid evidence and deliver real therapeutic outcomes.

We develop software that conforms to regulatory requirements for software as a medical device, setting us apart from typical fitness and health apps. This commitment ensures our products are safe and effective.

Additionally, we focus on innovation by collecting our own data to develop proprietary AI models. This approach not only enhances the precision of our solutions but also enables us to adapt and evolve with the rapidly advancing field of digital health.

4. What’s the biggest challenge in bringing innovation to real-world care?

Patient and provider acceptance is a significant challenge, as building trust and demonstrating the tangible benefits of innovative solutions is essential. Understanding the diverse needs of stakeholders, educating them, and effectively communicating how these innovations improve outcomes requires persistent effort.

Navigating the complex regulatory landscape is another hurdle. Ensuring compliance with stringent healthcare regulations demands meticulous attention to detail.

Moreover, data security is a critical concern. Protecting sensitive information while leveraging data for advancements is essential to maintaining trust and ensuring the ethical use of technology in healthcare.

5. How is it working with an international team spread across continents?

Working with an international team across Europe, the US and Asia is all about harnessing our shared mission, regardless of location. It’s the motivation and dedication of each team member that truly counts, not where they’re based.

Practical communication tools help us bridge time zones and streamline collaboration, ensuring we’re all aligned and moving forward together.

6. What message would you like to share with patients and healthcare professionals?

Collaboration is key. Your feedback and insights drive innovation and help create solutions that truly meet your needs. Unfortunately, in many cases, healthcare is not always thought of and designed from the patient’s perspective. That’s why your feedback and insights are crucial: YOU can drive innovation and help us create solutions that truly meet your needs.

7. Is there a person or a book that inspires you?

In the tech field, I’m inspired by Steve Jobs, particularly his relentless pursuit of excellence and innovation. His ability to combine creativity with technology and create products that fundamentally change how we live is very impressive. Jobs’ vision and focus on user experience remind me of the importance of designing solutions with the end-user in mind.

I recommend reading his official biography and watching his iconic keynotes from back in the day.

8. One quote you love?

One of Steve Jobs quotes that particularly inspires me is, “Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.”

This emphasizes the importance of staying ahead and continually pushing boundaries to create impactful solutions in the digital health sector.

9. What are the most important lessons you’ve learned in your field so far?

Digital product management is anything but simple, and that’s been a crucial lesson. At the core, it’s about hitting reality—learning and adapting to what truly makes sense while filtering out distractions. This process is easier said than done, requiring constant reflection and adjustment.

Effective product strategy is key. When done right, it simplifies decision-making, guiding you toward choices that align with your goals and deliver real value.

My advice ?

To those entering the tech industry is to stay curious and open to learning. Maintain a user-centric mindset to drive meaningful innovation and thereby successful products. What are your thoughts on AI in respiratory health? Let us know in the comments!
